Best in Class Vertical Auger Juicer
By topiparrot
I received my Kuvings Silent Juicer (KSJ) on May 10th from abt.com and have been using it everyday since then. I am a seasoned juicer and before I made juice 2-3 times a day with my Omega 8004 which is also a slow speed masticating juicer and I have tried a friend's Omega VRT330 which is a competing re-badged, over-marketed juicer from the factory that also makes the Hurom Juicer. Its great that similar technology to the commercial juice presses are finally available in your home (commercial juice press operate as slow as 1 RPM, these work at about 80RPM - both A LOT slower than tradition home centrifugal juicers at over 10K RPM resulting in a better juice that doesn't quickly settle separated from being spun at high-speed). My only focus is making juice and the KSJ is the best fit for my needs. The horizontal type, like my 8004, is better for greens, a little easier to clean as it has less parts/surface area, and can make pasta, purees, nut butter etc but its significant slower than my KSJ due to the smaller feed chute, auger, etc. If you want to make lots of juice, juice mixtures, or like to juice fruit the KSJ is certainly worth the extra money over a horizontal type and a no-brainer over the older, more expensive Hurom/Omega design. I was using my horizontal machine 2-3 times/day for mixed juices - with the Silent Juicer I can make the same amount in one juicing but a strainer is required unlike the horizontal machine which doesn't have enough pulp to make a difference to warrant a strainer. Some people think both horizontal and vertical machines need to be strained and my 8004 actually came with a strainer for the juice catch cup - you'll have to make the personal preference call but I favor strained juice with vertical auger juicers - its worth the extra step for the results! As I said before, I've used the competing Omega 330 and in the real/non-marketed world these competing vertical masticating juicers all perform about the same - there is no significant difference in performance in regards to yield, pulp in the juice, or clean up time. The KSJ is better designed - larger in-house built motor [smaller motors burn out more often especially in frequent use], larger auger, larger pulp port that doesn't clog as fast if you are juicing stringy produce(tip: cut produce fibers in smaller pieces if this is a problem for you), various extra safety features, membrane covered power switch, Tritan BPA-free components(juicing bowl/pulp cup/juice cup), and it cost $60 less than the Omega VRT330HD! You can't go wrong with either an Omega or a Kuvings vertical auger juicer but its important to note these advantages since juicing performance is virtually same. For beginners you'll also be happy with the better documentation and free recipe book - I did not use either much as I am pretty familiar with juicers. You can see a few videos of my KSJ in action at youtube.com/topiparrot

Better than my old Breville for juicing greens and MUCH quieter
By Mary M. Jackson
I've been juicing with a very nice Breville for the last 8 years off and on but since I started drinking green juice on a daily basis 2 months ago, I decided it was time to switch to another machine that would bring serenity back into my kitchen. My old Breville is still working like a champ (and I'm packing it up to give it to my brother)but I just couldn't take the noise level anymore. My nerves were completely shattered after making 2 quarts of juice each night for the next day! After reading several reviews on the Champion I realized that I would have to buy a separate attachment for wheat grass and other greens, but with the Kuvings this was not required.I made up my first batch of kale, cucumber, green apple, celery & ginger last night and as promised, it was quiet enough to continue to hold a conversation with everyone in the kitchen while I made my juice. It takes longer to make juice but much more is extracted than with my Breville. The pulp was VERY dry ~ the remnants of the cucumber were almost non-existent and the kale pulp looked like green straw coming out of the shoot. I did however make a tactical error by feeding 3 more kale leaves through at the end of the batch and quite a bit of juice became hung up in the machine. I ran about a cup of water through and got most of it out. Tonight I'll wait to put the cucumber in at the end of the cycle so that the cuke juice will push the more fibrous juices through...I also made a batch of carrot, ginger & green apple juice. My machine was making some pretty funky sounds when I added carrots by themselves so I alternated one piece of carrot with one piece of apple to keep things running smoothly.Cleaning is about the same as with my Breville. I bought a white Kuvings and I can tell that carrots are going to discolor the white components over time, as I'm sure beets will as well. I didn't want to spend the extra money on the black/silver model but if you're picky about keeping the unit looking brand new, you should spring for the black model. So far, I'm very happy with my purchase! It takes up less room on my counter, I love that the Kuvings is BPA free, it has a 10 year warranty, provides me with more juice with the same amount of veggies and my kitchen no longer sounds like a jet airplane is taking off!

no longer working after only a couple months of use
By dhinmn
The Kuvings 750 does not disappoint as far as noise is concerned. I also like the size of it, and the fact that it can sit out on my countertop tucked under the overhead shelves. It really struggles with the more fibrous veggies, like kale. It also struggles with berries such as blueberries and strawberries. For those, I end up having to use a strainer on the juice that comes out since there is so much pulp, especially from the blueberries. In fact, the blueberries seem more 'pulverized' than juiced, as if some of the skins come through the juice side instead of go out the back side. And yes, I'm certain I have it setup correctly (I am a test engineer by profession).More troublesome is how often the unit jams up with veggies. You have to cut everything into really small pieces and wait until each one goes through before loading more. And then switch in some apple slices in between veggies does help. While this technique works, it does take a long time to make any appreciable amount of juice.Clean up was more work than I had hoped, though with practice I am getting that part completed more efficiently. Also, checkout this video: [...] I see I'm not the only one that has issues with it freezing up and howling during juicing. And note the large amount of pulp that comes out of the Kuvings juicer into the juice at the 40:00 minute mark in this video. Also, watch at 33:00 where it pops the top off. You really need to feed this juicer slowly to prevent this.In summary, I can't really say I recommend this unit, especially if you plan to use it for the more fibrous veggies. Also, even though I only use it about 1-2x a week, I've noticed the parts are wearing and there is more play in the fit between them than there was when it was new. I suspect it will not last a long time at this rate, and judging from other recent reviews, it seems that others are having issues as well. Thanks for reading.UPDATE: This Kuvings did an Ok job on fruits at first, and we made apple and orange juices without much issue when it was new. But now after only a couple months of use, it is basically just making puree and no longer 'juice'. I get very little juice now, and am working with Kuvings on a refund. I'll update status after I hear back from them.UPDATE2: I was able to return my Kuvings 750 thanks to Amazon's terrific customer service (Amazon is top notch as far as customer service goes!). Kuvings on the other hand tried to get me to remove this review, but I stand by my review since it honestly reflects the experience I had with this juicer.
