3Processor itself works well, the lid has been a consistent problem.
By DutchWoman
Since receiving this product I've only used it to make hummus and pesto and both times it did the job very well. Initially, I put the lid and bowl in my dishwasher and when I used it afterward, it was very hard to get the lid to lock into the bowl. I had to jam it in and was afraid I was going to break it. I think it may have shrunk a little in my dishwasher from the heated drying. Since then I've just hand-washed the bowl and lid, and now the lid locks in fine again. I think it's a good machine for the price (I paid less than $85) and it also comes with a 4-cup bowl with mini-knife and several shredding/slicing disks. The 11-cup bowl is the same size as some of the much pricier food processors, i.e. KitchenAid and CuisineArt, and it's very sturdy, not flimsy plastic. I will mostly use this food processor for making hummus and pesto and for pureeing bean and squash soups, etc. I'm not sure if I'll use it to mix bread dough or other heavy duty jobs, but it seems the motor will be able to handle those. I probably won't use the shredding/slicing disks. I never used those with my prior food processor, and when I did once for vegetables, I found they turned into mush. So I can't comment on how it will shred and slice certain foods. I found this food processor on Amazon after searching through pages and pages of the more well-known brands of food processors, all of which were outside my price range. When I came upon this brand (Sunkist!) and saw the price and the size of the bowl and all the attachments it came it, I thought it was too good to be true. But it really isn't. When I took it out of the box, it felt quite heavy so you know there's a good motor in there. It also comes with a nice, oval plastic storage box for the smaller bowl and knife and the shredding/slicing attachments. I found this exact same model later on the Sears website, and it retailed there for about $200, so I did get a really good deal from Amazon! So far, I'm happy with it and I hope it will last me a number of years.UPDATE 12-15-12: Used the shredding/grating disk today to shred 2 lbs of carrots for a carrot cake. It did the job very well, in about 5 minutes, and the carrots didn't turn into mush at all!UPDATE 01-11-13: I used the food processor a few days before X-mas to chop some nuts. I put in the mini-bowl and the mini-knife and locked the lid in place as per the instructions (generally, food processors won't operate unless the lid is locked in place). It chopped the nuts fine, however, now the lid is completely stuck onto the bowl and no matter what I try it will not come unlocked! I'm pretty disappointed and disgusted. The machine still operates, but I can't use it if I can't remove the lid to add/remove foods. Since the lid locks into the bowl, I cannot remove the bowl either because you cannot remove the bowl without unlocking the lid first. So the processor is pretty useless right now. I managed, with some difficulty, to get a hold of the company that makes this machine, which is actually Omega, not Sunkist. They said they would offer a replacement of the machine or the parts, but I will have to send it to them at my own expense. Since I cannot remove the bowl, I would have to send the whole processor to them, which is pretty heavy and is probably going to cost me more than the I paid for it on Amazon.UPDATE 03-18-13: My significant other finally managed to unjam the lid after he became disgusted with the crumbs from the nuts that were still in the bowl growing moldy (with the lid being stuck on we couldn't remove the bowl to wash it). So he forced it off, thankfully without breaking the lid locking mechanism. Since then I've used the food processor again and haven't had any more problems with the lid becoming jammed. The original problem occurred with the mini bowl and I have not used that one since then, only the big bowl.
