Massive Quality Commercial Blender
By Altar Boy
Let me say first that I know something about quality blenders. I started out in the 90's with a Waring stainless steel bar blender (with only an on and off switch) that lasted for 15 happy margarita years. In 2007 I purchased from Amazon a Blendtec Home 3 horsepower blender (http://amzn.com/B000GIGZXM) for $415. It is a programmed blender that takes out the guesswork on how to blend smoothies, soups, ice cream, juices etc. I first saw this blender on U-Tube eating a first generation Iphone to dust. When I don't know how to blend a certain food product I fall back on my Blendtec. It does a wonderful job. HOWEVER, when I put my beloved Blendtec next to my new Omega BL420S it looks like Bill Bixby next to the Incredible Hulk. [Makes me wonder if Tim Allen designed it on one of his "Home Improvement" episodes.] While the Blendtec is stylish and fits easily under my kitchen cabinets, The Omega has a larger footprint and needs a taller space. The Omega BL 420S has a 64 ounce blending jar (as does the Blendtec), but the Omega has a massive base about twice the size of the Blendtec. Oddly both have 3 HP motors and use around 1500 watts. The Blendtec has a lighter less impressive blending jar and the Omega has a "heavier duty" blending jar with a massive blending jar base. I have already burned up one Blendtec blending jar and bought a second one just in case. I don't think I will have the same problem with the omega blending jar . . . it looks like it would last for 50 years. However there is always the risk of broken or bent blending blades which is every blending jars achilles heel. The Omega basically has an "off" and "on" switch and a "hi" and "low" speed switch. It was obviously designed to be used in a commercial setting like a bar. The Blendtec has "home" in its name so it was designed for home use with many many settings and pre programmed settings. However, the more you learn to blend the more you really only need a few settings and an on and off switch. I found in many preparations with the Blendtec by-passing all the programming and just turning it on at a low speed and using a high speed to finish off for fine blending. I like the simplicity of the Omega just fine and it is priced right at $340 ($60 cheaper than the Blendtec). If you think you might need a larger blending jar the Omega BL 430S has a 82 Oz jar. Need a pulse switch too - the BL 440 and 450 have that (with either a 64 Oz or 82 Oz jar, respectively). Also if you have to have a gradual variable speed setting the BL 460 and 470 have that with a pulse switch (with either a 64 Oz or 82 Oz jar, respectively), and the BL 480 and 490 have a variable speed knob with a timer knob(with either a 64 Oz or 82 Oz jar, respectively). The added features of larger jar, pulse, timer and variable speed can add up to an additional $200 to the cost of the Omega. I can't imagine what the 82 Oz jar looks like or where I would fit it in my kitchen!I tested the Omega BL420S with what I consider a "tough" smoothie - my frozen mango, banana, kale, OJ smoothie. What makes it tough is the frozen mango. Mango has fibers holding the flesh together. When it is frozen it is like trying to blend hard rubber. Well my Blendtec blending jar burned out on one of those smoothies. So with trepidation I attempted to make it with the Omega. No problem. Within 45 seconds the hard frozen Tommy Atkins mango blended down to a semi-frozen liquid. So if you want a tough commercial quality blender consider the Omega Commercial 3 HP series benders. Looks like I will be enjoying it for years to come.As always if something happens over time to this appliance I will attempt to add an Addendum to this review and let you know what happened. I appreciate other reviewers who do the same. Looks like a winner!!!

Love this Blender
By E. Byers
It seems like everyone is making an insane blender nowadays.I previously had a Blendtec blender, with the smaller 40oz (I think? not the 64oz one) carafe on it. Tons of buttons, digital display, slick marketing website that shows how they can blend everything. Overall a good blender, but was on my second carafe (at like $70 a pop!), and overall, kind of disappointed for what I paid.Enter this monster. It's huge. Bigger than the blendtec by quite a bit, with the carafe on I am guessing it will not fit under most kitchen cabinets. 64oz marked carafe capacity, although it can probably hold close to 90oz if you went to the brim. It's also nearly the direct opposite of the blendtec, having only two plain toggle switches. "High/Low" and "On/Off". It's all I need honestly, the blendtec had all kinds of fancy modes, and lots of speeds, but ultimately for what I did, it was just a few things, and the cycles never worked, meaning the simple toggles are perfect for me.Huge Carafe is a winner (although Blendtec + others now have equivalent sizes as well), the carafe construction also appears to be much better, and using it contents seem to not get stuck as easily. Not sure if it's because of the larger air holes on the top, or just the design (it's a different type of plastic material, that is quite awesome for durability, etc). That said, I have a couple of downsides. The base is in a plastic case, feels slightly cheap, looks slightly cheap, looks to be durable enough. The other is that when I first used it, it smelled like burning electronics, subsequent uses have been better, but made my wife freak out a bit. The other downside is that it's just really big, look at the sizes first if you are going to leave this thing out.Sold the blendtec, this is the blender for me, simple, powerful, huge capacity, and works. Awesome.

The Biggest Billy Goat Gruff
By Conspicuous Consumer
As a grandmother of five I have plenty of opportunity to make fruit juice icees for the kids and this machine really knows how to pulverize ice. This is definitely a high-powered machine. It's easy to disassemble, clean, and put back together. It uses 500 more watts and more than twice the horsepower of the Breville 800BLXL Die-Cast Hemisphere 2-Speed Blender with 67-Ounce Polycarbonate JarIt is heavy but so are all well-made kitchen appliances. If it takes up too much space on your counter, buy a smaller model. My beloved Breville 88BLXL is slightly smaller and lighter. While I wish it also had one speed lower, I can always use an older blender for slower speeds. Don't buy this unless you can handle this kind of power.
