Bacterial delight

This thing works well enough but seems to have been designed by engineers who never bothered inspecting its guts after use. There is no seal where the motor shaft connects to the grinding attachment, so fluids from food being pressed and ground have a direct pathway to the interior of the mechanism. In a possible afterthought the designers have put a lot of little holes on the bottom of the machine as an attempt to let the stuff leak out. It doesn't work except as an overflow and rotting residue is left to fester and mold. This and similar designs should be pulled - not recommended.

Just fine for my purposes

I have been using the Norpro manual meat grinder for years now and was very satisfied with it. However, like all grinders it takes considerable time to clean. Since I could not do much of a quantity with my little Norpro I felt the ground meat output to clean up time ratio could stand some improving. So I looked for an inexpensive grinder that could do a larger quantity thereby making clean up time worthwhile.This fits the bill. I knew going in it was not terribly powerful but I am not putting up mass quantities of ground beef or grinding up a deer or anything like that. It worked fine on a mix of chuck, sirloin and round. I did between 2-3 pounds which is about two weeks' worth for me. That would have been a good amount of grinding by hand.Clean up is somewhat more complicated than the Norpro and this (and scant directions especially concerning "kubbe" sausage? attachments) are why I took off a star. Aluminum is lightweight and won't rust but it is a pain to clean when dealing with raw meat in that you cannot use a bleach solution on it. So it takes a lot of soaking/scrubbing in very hot soapy water. The mostly plastic Norpro can be cleaned with bleach ensuring that you are doing a good job sanitizing it. Of course grinder plate and blade needs to be hardened steel but I wouldn't mind a plastic hopper or chute.Speaking of blade, whoever says this or any grinder won't grind at all almost certainly has the blade in the wrong way. It seems illogical when you have it facing against the grate but that is the proper way for any grinder to work.

great grinder

this machine works fantastic!! Would recommend to anyone and the price is great also. My husband did a large chuck roast in as little as ten minutes
