Good juicer but a fatal flaw
By riprip
I have juiced for years using my Mom's Champion Juicer. So when I tried this juicer I was pleased with how well it extracted juice at a reasonable purchase cost. I think it does a nice job with both leafy and hard vegetables and fruit. However, it has a fatal flaw. The basket edge is plastic and spins very close above the edge of the frame of the juice collector. If the basket wobbles for any reason these plastic parts rub together. Since the basket is rotating very fast, it only takes a moment for it to rub. Once it does, the plastic quickly heats up and melts. If you make a very clear juice, you can find little bits of plastic in the juice. Decidedly unhealthy. So I bought a second juicer and was VERY careful about feed rate. However, even the weight of a carrot can sometimes cause the basket to wobble and cause the same problem. In fact, the instruction book states that sometimes the basket can lose alignment. The directions say to let the machine run and it will correct the problem. However, while it is running, it is putting bits of plastic into your juice. I will post a photo if I can figure out how to do that.I am disappointed. It worked so well extracting juice, but this problem is just unworkable. I would suggest a better made juicer. I think I will get the Champion. Much more expensive but it is also bulletproof. My family has had the same juicer since the late 1980s and it is still going strong. I think the Breville has an all stainless basket and it looks like is does not contact the sides of the juicer, so that might be an option since it is the same design.

Awesome Juicer
By A. Jay Hunter
Bought this juicer for $89 from the warehouse store that begins with C and ends in an O. I bought with the thought that I just needed to start juicing and if I didn't like it I could take back. Well I am going to keep. I am not interested in the other types of juicers, masticating, presses, high speed centrifugal, etc... This one works well and the prices is right. The key to using this juicer is to get a routine. In other words, juice enough so that making juice is quick and clean up is even quicker. The Lalanne juicer works fell in both of these regards. Well on with the review of the machine.Pros:Quiet, I was surprised how quiet the motor is while running.FAST, the big feeder allows you to put in whole apples or 4 carrots.Affrodable $90.Easy to clean. No really it is very easy to clean once you get into your routine. Takes me about 5 minutes to disassemble, rinse, dry and reassemble the juicer. I hair longer than making coffee.Looks good on the counter. Say what you will but the black and stainless steel look is good.Comes with a cleaning brush, blade removal tool, DVD, and a cook book.Pulp is reasonably dry (I have nothing else to compare it to).The juice comes out well with minimal pulp and foam. The slow motor makes it easy to juice leafy greens. Can you get more juice from other machines I am sure, but for this price this machine makes quick work of vegetables.Cons:Doesn't come with its own cup to catch the juice. The unit's spout is a bit low, I use a 4 cup pyrex measuring cup to catch the juice.I don't like the no drip spout, mainly because it still drips. I would have preferred a unit that was an inch taller, and had a longer permananat spout. All told THIS version of the Lalanne juicer doesn't deserve the reputation of its earlier models. This thing juices well and the pulp is dry what else could you want?Jay

A very pleased customer
By Lindym
Hubby and I purchased this juicer 3 weeks ago at Costco. We were fully aware (I had done my research) that I would maybe be happier with a higher end brand, but we try to live within our budget, hence the research. The juicer has been used by the 2 of us for 3 meals a day since then: 66 meals. That is a LOT of fruits and veggies going through!Obviously by the 5 stars I gave this, we are happy. It does what it says it will do, no more, no less. I knew it was a centrifugal juicer. The pulp may be a bit moister than it could be. Yes, occasionally, because we don't peel our apples, the large piece of apple will hit (smaller apples will easily go in whole but I take out the seeds), shred off the fruit and leave the skin flat on the blade. We can tell by the sound what is happening. Drop in a carrot and away it goes. Greens are always mixed in with carrots, zucchini, apple etc, something firm. Now and again it takes a bit more pressure on the pusher. One tip I had read on a review was to line the pulp bin with a produce bag to help with clean up. Not only does the bag do that but if, after getting it situated as a liner and the bin in place, I pull the back edge of the bag up and over the exhaust edge of the lid/pulp guard (had to check my paperwork to see what they called it, lol), it keeps any stray pulp bits from escaping.Clean up is fast. I haven't really timed it, because I also take care of the bowls, knives, colanders and counters at the same time, but the machine itself is probably no more than 6 minutes.I realize that it could go into the dishwasher according to user guide, but the time I tried it, I wasn't happy with the results. Also, it takes me longer to jig-saw-puzzle it on the top rack than just hand washing it. There is only one area that MAY be a bit hard to clean as the brush won't do it, and that is inside the lid where there is a deep "vee" in one of the pulp guides (don't know the technical term). I use the back side of my paring knife blade and a quick swipe takes care of it.A couple of times we have tried re-juicing the pulp, but it's not worth the effort. The amount of pulp matter going out, as we have been strictly juicing, bothered me at first but I just tell myself the pulp is the package my juice comes in.As far as the noise of the unit, we can easily have conversations with out shouting. For the money, $89, we feel the juicer does an excellent job of giving us the juice we were looking for. One draw back might be that the spout sits a bit low and requires a shallower bowl than what I had. Dollar Tree has a generous sized, handled bowl with a pour spout (that doesn't drip) for..... $1 ;-)Tonight we are branching out our juicing by making a stab at doing more blending and keeping some of the pulp fiber that we have been tossing out. I brought home the Ninja Pro System 1100. That will be another review after we have put a couple of weeks worth of meals through it.
