5juicer good
By J-Man
This Juicer is a great value. My mother-in-law has a certain info-mercial juicer that this beats the pants off of. It is better built (like all Brevel products) easier to clean and does a better job. For those like myself that don't want to spend $400 on a juicer this is the best that I've used.

5Fantastic Product
By C. Windley
I really love my juicer. It does exactly what it says and more. Yes like with anything else it gets aggravating cleaning all the parts every time you use it but the benefits are wonderful, so I use it almost everyday.

5The best LEMON juicer I have found
By R. M. Duenas
First of all, this is a LEMON juicier, sized for lemons, not for tangerines, oranges or anything bigger. The photo that shows it with half an orange does not help the product and only creates confusion, I believe, as it will be hard to squeeze half an orange inside it.It performs extremely well. Extracts up to the last drop, and separates the juice from the seeds and the pulp. Cleaning it is also a breeze. But what I like best is that it won't break in the middle of a job as other plastic models (unless one drops it or crushes it, of course). It will not peel as other coated models, and it will not rust, as other metal models. Also, the price at which is sold today (early May 2011) is almost half the price at which I bought it about three months ago, so it is a great deal. I highly recommend it.

5One of my favorite kitchen tools
By CraftySue
This is one of my favorite kitchen tools. I have one of the old Graham Kerr endorsed ones. It is a perfect size for a regular lemon. Now if you have humongous lemons then this won't work for you as the other reviewer suggested but I don't have a lemon tree that spits out crazy monster lemons I buy them at the grocery store and this thing works like a charm. Gets every last bit of juice out of the lemon while simultaneously straining the juice so you don't have to dodge seeds or scoop them out of the juice getting your hands dirty. Quick and easy. Love it. Really.

5Not For Oranges!
By Joel W.
Even though the product description says this is for lemons and limes the juicer is pictured with an orange,it's not big enough for oranges!..You can only juice about 2 lemons at a time before you have to empty it ..At any rate it works great for juicing lemons as noted by everone else who liked it..Very sturdy, very well made.

5When in doubt, read the manual
By Frank Forrest
For the most part, anything that is advertised on those infomercials over-promises or fails to deliver. I ordered a Magic Bullet anyway because it seemed to be just the sort of kitchen appliance that I needed...small, safe and useful. I crossed my fingers and ordered one. When the package arrived, it was packed nicely in a large case containing all the parts and accessories as advertised; mixing cups, drinking/mixing mugs, small blender attachment, juicer attachment, shaker cups, two receipe books, an instruction manual, blades and motor base. Basically, the Magic Bullet is a small compact blender that is turned on it's head. Instead of putting items from the top and blending/chopping them, you put the contents in a holding cup and twist on the cap/blade. This whole unit is then placed upside down on the base and you turn it on. After the contents are processed, you take the unit off the base and twist off the blade/cap. A great and ingenious idea. But the big question is, does it work as advertised? The surprising answer is yes.I've had this unit for about a month and a half now and am thoroughly surprised at how nice it works. I have made smoothies that not only rival the local juice bars, but the product tastes better and is a snap to make. I have also made personal servings of soup and vegatable smoothies. Making a tuna-egg-mayo spread was blended very nicely and the whole family ate it up in a couple of days. To get this unit to work as it was intended has to do with reading the manual. It states very clearly that there are certain ways to load your mixing cup. In cases where things do not get blended or are stuck at the top of the cup, the instructions tell you to take the blending cup off and to tap it a few times to get all the contents to the bottom. There is no problem in overheating *if you read the manual*. About 90% of the jobs can be done in about 10 seconds or less by using the pulse method. If you continuously blend/chop and leave it on like a regular blender, it will overheat and possibly break the unit. Nothing needs to be processed for more than 30 seconds so this is a moot point. Clean-up is one of the best features of this appliance. Just run the mixing cups and blades under water with a little soap, and you are done. This unit is so easy to use that our family uses it on a daily basis. As far as the cost is concerned, it may seem a little on the steep end, but the Magic Bullet pays for itself in no time at all. It has many useful features which allow you to use it as a coffee grinder, a chopper, a blender, a smoothie maker, a sandwich spread maker, soup mixer, etc. I have never used a small kitchen appliance as much as I have used the Magic Bullet. The big blender made by -------, which has been sitting on the shelf for many years is now officially retired.A few minutes of your time in reading the manual will help you dodge any bullets in using the Magic Bullet.

5Bad rap
By Darryl K. Springston
I have the Magic Bullet and I read some less than good reviews on the unit. I would like to put those to rest if I may.1. After using the magic bullet, could smell the motor burning up. Having worked with motors in the past, I can put that bad rap to rest. There are two types of electrical motors commonly used in the market today. One is an induction motor. and the other is the brush and commentator motor. Although the induction motor is most commonly used, there are some brush types out there. The burning electrical smell you sensed is common, especially when first using the motor. When first used, the brushes are not worn slightly to perfectly fit against the commentator. Until that happens, the brushes will slightly arc and you will sense an electrical smell but it doesn't take long till they are perfectly fitted to the commentator. After that, the smell will no longer be there. This is normal and is not a problem. It is not a sign of overheating or any damage to the motor.2. I found an excellent quick way to clean the Bullet. I first spray the blade and inside of the cup to remove larger particles, then I fill the cup about 1/3 full with water and just a drop of soap detergent. Screw the blade lid on firmly and pulse it a few times. Unscrew and rinse and you will have a sparkling clean unit. This will get into areas that otherwise you couldn't possibly reach especially in and around the blade area.3. I have also found that removing the processed food from the cup is best done with a small rubber spatula as use of a metal object like a knife or fork etc will eventually scratch and mar the plastic.4. My Magic Bullet came with several replacement rubber gaskets that are used inside the black blade screw on caps. When you have cleaned your unit and you are going to store with blade cap screwed onto the food cup, do not screw the blade cap tightly with the food cup as when it is stored even overnite, the rubber gasket will tend to flatten out and then need replacement.I always leave mine about a turn loose and you will get a lot more use out the gaskets.5. When I am making a sandwich spread or anything requiring mayo I wait until I have finished processing the food and then I mix the processed food and mayo in a separate bowl. If you add the mayo before processing, the mayo and the fool is going to stick to the sides and even tapping is not going to loosen it.6. The instruction book says that you need to occasionally tap the blade/cup unit to free up food to get to the blade. I have personally found that a back and forth shaking motion does a much better job as all the food in usually at the bottom anyway and a few shakes will move it into the blades and wa-la, it works mucho bettro.7. If you read the instructions and use accordingly, you will find the magic bullet works, (Maybe not excatly like on TV) but I am very pleased with mine. I have also fould that the shorter pulses seem to work best as they don't tend to sling the food out and away from the blade.8. I tried processing some pecans, mixed a little soy milk and honey and created some great tasting health food.If you are considering the Magic Bullet, I can just say that it is like anything else, when directions are followed, it will work fine. When I picked up the Base unit, the weight tells me that the motor is plenty big enough to get the job done. A light motor, light duty, a heavy motor, heavy duty. EnjoyThanks for your time,Darryl K Springston

1Don't expect a long-lasting product.
By reading helper
I bought the bullet in January, 2005, and used it regularly, but not every day. I took very good care of it, and used it expecially for grinding coffee, which it did very well. Unfortunately, I was recently pureeing some very well-done caulifleur into soup, carefully as instructed, and after about 10 seconds of grinding (during which time it had done the job very well, it developed a high piched squeal and stopped. Inside, the small plastic disk at the bottom of the well in which the grinding mechinism sits cracked into two pieces, and the machine is unusable. I checked for a warrenty, hoping for a year's warranty, and found it had NONE AT All

4not perfect, but an excellent value (plus regular vs deluxe)
By ivyspies
Overall I think it's a great juicer, particularly for the budget conscious novice; the price is appealing and the quality is good. There is no need to buy disposable filters and the main source of labor lies in washing which is initially something to get used to. The amount of juice it extracts is good as far as I can tell, though the pulp is not perfectly dry*, but the juice is thick and not clear, so if you want very clear juice perhaps this juicer isn't for you.*Now for my explanation on the pulp. Apples for example, frequently result in very thin slices being discarded into the pulp collector. That doesn't thrill me. Also in general, despite the pulp being dry, I discover on dismantling the juicer there's a good amount of wet juicy pulp that's stuck to the inside (think: apple sauce). The TV demonstration's somewhat misleading on their claim of this juicer's superiority in extracting juice completely from fruits and vegies. As mentioned by others, the parts are plastic, so take care in washing well. For me the green side (scour pad) of the sponge will remove a great deal of the staining, especially if you clean it right after using, but be gentle, because you don't want to scratch it up and create more crevices for stains to seep.By the way, you do still need to cut the fruit, like large apples and oranges which cannot be fed into the chute. But of course, the preparation process is lessened as peeling and de-seeding is an optional step. Be careful when you use this juicer on harder veggies like beets, though. The way I get around this is by cutting them down and alternating with another type of veg/fruit. Fortunately I haven't had any problems by following the suggestions outlined by the LaLannes, but I can definitely sense there's a limit.REGULAR or DELUXE?Soon after purchasing my regular model I found the deluxe at the local wharehouse store for the same price. I bought that one, too, and compared. I discovered there is absolutely no difference in the machine itself. The deluxe simply comes with extras, which boils down to figuring out whether you find the price difference (if there is any) worth paying for the following:- an extra blade- a brush (very useful in cleaning the strainer, but a very generic kitchen tool)- large measurement cup (again, useful, but generic and superfluous if you juice directly into your glass)- juicer platform and overflow platform (these would be better if they latched onto each other so there's some stability and utility)- an extra blade-remover- a bonus book entitled TOTAL JUICING

3Why we juice
By Bess
It seems like a lot of these reviews are written by beginners who are reviewing the practice of juicing itself, rather than reviewing the machine for which this page is all about. To new juicers who haven't ever juiced before: Yes, there is clean-up involved. Yes, there will be organic particulate matter in the juice-machine made juice (this is actually a good thing), much more so than heavily strained 'store bought' juices. If you're looking for a magic machine where you can throw fruits and veggies into a chute and out pops a bottle of Welches, sorry. That's Star Trek, not juicing... and even if that's what the juicer accomplished, if that's what you want, then why buy a juicer in the first place? The reason we juice is because we want our juices to be totally natural, without additives and preservatives, and with all of the nutrients inherent to the fruit or veggie left intact. You do not get this when you buy a bottle of crystal clear juice at the supermarket. The sacrifice we make for the superior juice is effort and higher cost. The reward is juice that is hugely superior to anything you can buy in a bottle.Anyway, on to the machine. This is an exceptional entry level machine. If you buy one and find yourself so enamored by juicing that you want to totally incorporate it into your life, you can eventually consider moving on to a Greenstar or a Breville. For everyone else, this machine is a great starting point and for most of us, is the ending point as well.I own 4 juicers, running the spectrum of quality from $19.95 to $300. The Lalanne has become the workhorse of the lot. In comparing the LaLanne Classic to the other juicers, it's very apparent that it seriously outperforms the lower quality juicers in the way of juice extraction, and is actually comparable to the higher end units- the difference certainly isn't more than their respective differences in cost. On certain online discussion forums, "Juicer Snobs" often laugh at the Lalanne, but I would wager that these people haven't ever compared one to their $400 unit. If they had, they might be regretting their pricier purchase. The feed chute is nice and large, and the powerful motor is strong enough to really wring out the fluids. No, the pulp doesn't come out 'completely dry' (as they suggest on TV) but the machine does a very good job in separating and anyone who is used to a cheapie juicer will be very impressed.Clean up isn't that bad on the Lalanne. One thing any long time juicer will tell you is that clean-up should always be done right away. The moment you are finished juicing your F&V's, toss the components into the dish washer and clean your blade immediately. Trust me on this- it will save you a lot of time and headache. What takes two minutes to rinse and scrub off immediately after juicing can become a 1/2 hour chore if it's left to dry and stick. The machine has a lifetime warranty on the motor (which is the only part you really have to be concerned about) but bear in mind that the warranty is for the original purchaser only, so if you get one as a gift, you will definitely need the receipt. If you get one second hand, you're pretty much out the warranty (I've never had to use the warrant service, but reports have it that they're pretty good and relatively quick). The "return postage fee" for motor service is $29.95 plus another $20 that it will cost you to send it in, so I would suggest that if it ever does break, keep an eye out for a new-used one, rather than having the old one rebuilt. You can get Lalanne juicers that were very lightly (if ever) used for $50-$60 on Amazon, Craigslst and other sites... Juicers suffer from "Exciting Kitchen Appliance Syndrome" where a lot of people buy them, use them once then stick them under the counter and forget about them. This is good for second hand buyers.Anyway, that's all. Overall, four stars of five. It's not a $400 juicer, but it's very close and of course, it doesn't cost $400 either.***** Edit- 2 1/2 Years Later ***************************My machine is still going strong, but I did feel compelled to come back and edit this review with an update.I purchased one of these as a Birthday gift and it failed straight away. I bought at the retail level, so I took it back and got a new one. That one has been going strong through daily use for 6 months now.Perhaps the LaLane Juicer People found a new workshop in Asia to make the newer units, but I must admit, the initial- almost instantaneous- breakage bothered me a bit, especially since I've been such a cheerleader of these for so long now. As such, I'm updating my review and lowering my star rating from Four to Three Stars. In reading over the other reviews, it seems that the product line suffers from significant, erratic quality control issues. If you get one that works, you're really in the chips with a fantastic product... If you get one that breaks, well, yeah. You're going to consider it junk and tell anyone who will listen.Product manufacturers are smart people. They read these reviews.I would suggest to the manufacturers of the LaLanne Juicer that some books be mandatory reading at their overseas workshop.- Everything ever written by W. Edwards Demming; focus intently on those passages that relate to industrial quality.- Kaizen: The Key To Japan's Competitive SuccessIf you start making a juicer that rarely breaks- as opposed to a juicer that is a crapshoot right out of the box- you wouldn't even need Jack LaLanne to endorse it. It would sell itself. The design itself is really great, but your implementation seems to be dicey, which is seriously impacting you reputation and goodwill with your customers. If you don't think quality control is important, perhaps a conversation with American auto manufactures might help you see things a bit better.Anyway, this still does come highly recommended, but now, I would suggest that you only buy at the retail level, where you can take it back if you get a lemon.

1SCREWED AGAIN!
By C. Jamieson
Several years ago, after watching the famed strongman sell his product on an infomercial I decided to make an investment in my health & I purchased "The Power Juicer." Initially, I was impressed. All claims seemed to be confirmed, quiet, powerful, and I wasn't naive to the amount of cleaning that would be required & quickly adapted a routine that made the cleanup fairly painless. About 2 months after my purchase, I noticed the plastic screw that the blade connects to, was cracked. I talked to the Power Juice people & they sent me a new one after returning mine to them. I recall being quite pleased with the way this was handled.Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago. I hadn't used The Power Juicer for some time & when I started assembling it I heard a crack when I started screwing the blade in - you guessed it, that very same screw had completely cracked off. After considering the effort in contacting the Power Juice people, packing up & mailing said juicer along w/ $30.00 for the return, I made a bold move. I went online & purchased a used juicer for $10.50 + 15.00 shipping. The pictures looked good & it was missing the pulp basket. WHAT A BARGAIN! When the juicer arrived I unpacked it & immediately inspected this screw. It was cracked.I have to say I was more angry at "The Power Juice company then the person I purchaed this juicer from. I've seen this in other products as well & it absolutely drives me bonkers. Think about this, the very powerful motor- which it is, and that they guarantee for life, is transferring its energy to the blade that pulverizes any fruit or veggie its way, is depending on a plastic screw to hold up under not only the incredible downward force of the food being jammed into it, but also the constant screwing & unscrewing of the blade. THEY EVEN GIVE YOU A SPECIAL TOOL TO TIGHTEN THE BLADE DOWN ONTO THIS FLIMSY PLASTIC SCREW!!I've heard the defense before that "it's to keep costs down" or "it's the only way to make the product affordable." Well, The Power Juice people have come out with their new & improved stainless steal models. I haven't inspected the inards of these models but I bet they still have that poorly concieved, mis-engineered, flimsy plastic screw just waiting to fail for anyone willing to plunk down $150.00.

4Best Citrus Juicer I've Found at this Price
By G. Lowitz
We just received our Breville 800CPXL Citrus Press after the holidays and have used it several times since. Compared to the low-end (and much less expensive) plastic Krupps version we replaced (which kept tripping our GFCI), I rate this product 4.5 stars out of 5. It falls just short of perfection, but is nonetheless the most elegant and functional citrus juicer I've been able to find at this price point.LIKES:1) Beautiful die-cast design feels substantial and stays put when pressing citrus. Kudos to the industrial design team for turning a juicer into a work of art. This is by far the best looking electric citrus press on the market.2) Brushed stainless exterior goes with any decor and looks great on countertop. No reason to store it away.3) Removable strainer and juice basin are easy to handwash (I recommend using a small brush or toothbrush to help clean out the pulp).4) Can press an 8-oz glass of orange juice in less than a minute and works with lemons, mandarins, oranges, and grapefruits without changing elements.AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT:This juicer works well and beats others I've tried. However, there are a few areas that Breville engineers could improve in their next model. None of these recommendations should cause you to avoid purchasing this unit, but I list them here nonetheless since there's always room to improve most products:1) Doesn't handle large grapefruit as well as I'd like. Still left some juice/pulp in the skin, which I squeezed out by hand. Breville could consider offering a larger snap-on attachment more suitably sized for pressing grapefruit.2) Sometimes the skin of the orange remains stuck inside the top of the press, requiring manual extraction. Maybe I'm pressing too hard, but this still seems to happen from time to time. On a few occasions, I stalled the motor completely which surprised me. However, stalling the motor didn't cause the GFCI to keep tripping like the Krupps model we replaced.3) The electrical cord is nicely designed, but a little too short. I'd prefer to see a 6' cord to reach to the nearest outlet while allowing flexibility in where to place the juicer on the countertop.4) If you leave the juicer out on the countertop where there's a cabinet above, the handle (press) bangs against the top of the cabinet and requires a little finesse to pull it towards the edge of the countertop when you're ready to use it. The typical height between the countertop and bottom of a cabinet is 18" +/- 1" and often the face frame of the cabinet protrudes about 1/2" or so below the bottom of the cabinet underside. If Breville offered a locking position with the handle down, this wouldn't be a problem and it would be easier to slide out the juicer into position from the back of the counter.5) The handle itself seems a little flimsy when compared to the rest of the die-cast machine. While it's functional and certainly strong enough, I would prefer a solid convex die-cast handle arm (oval cross section) versus the inverted "U" type cross section of the current design. Although the current arm does appear to be die cast, during the extraction process, juice and pulp tend to splatter on the concave underside of the handle. This makes cleaning the handle a little harder than it should if the handle cross section were convex on top and bottom.Overall, this is an excellent product with bold design and good looks. I recommend this model to anyone who wants to add freshly squeezed citrus to your daily or weekly regimen. I can't comment on the long-term reliability of the motor since we've only had the unit for a few weeks. But so far so good.

2Pretty Good for a While
By Donald C. Thompson
I thought this citrus juicer was very good when I got it in July of 2007. It is nicely finished in easy-to-clean stainless-steel, the lever action makes it less of a strain to get some pressure on the citrus, and it is fairly easy to clean the parts.I make about 1/2 - 1 cup of juice daily. After a couple of months, something bent or stretched or broke in the hinge mechanism, and it became a little loose. Everything kept working though.Well, the six month mark came yesteday, and it died. I juiced half of a lime, and when I put the other half in... nothing. I guess the internal switch that activates the motor when one depresses the lever failed. For $160, I would have hoped that it make to the one year mark. Who knows, maybe I can get it repaired or replaced, but I can no longer recommend this juicer without reservations.

4A solid product
By JohnSays
(I have rewritten parts of this review as of Apr 1, 2006 after much more usage.) In summary: I am very happy with the juicer.I was also prompted to write a review because of the person who writes about all the problems with the spout. I think I may know what the problem there is: It sounds like he juices with the spout in the up position instead of down. When juicing, the spout is supposed to be down. In fact, one of the nice things about this juicer is the spout. When you have enough juice or want to remove the juice catcher, lift the spout up and it closes off the flow of juice.I have found the machine very easy to use and to clean. I was impressed with the cleanup. It takes me about 2 minutes -- literally. Just rinse the parts, scrub the strainer with a stiff brush, and then leave to dry.I juice a lot of lemons and I have had only minor difficulty: If the lemon is too pointy I have to cut that point off to keep the lemon from spinning in the top "cup" that holds it. I haven't had the same problem with oranges.I think it is a little on the pricey side. I got mine as Macy's on sale for $135.I also have a Black and Decker motorized citrus juicer. It is a lot more work and does not get all of the juice. The Breville gets every last drop faster and easier.
